Selaco

When running the game through proton, fps is capped to 60
I prefer running most games through proton, since in my experience it tends to provide a better experience. That said, while starting selaco on the latest proton version (currently 9), the games frame rate is locked to 60fps regardless of settings. Disabling Vsync or the build in fps limiter doesnt change the fps of the game.

Are you running the game in Vulkan or OpenGL? If you want to limit the framerate you might have better luck in OpenGL specifically in the Windows/Proton version.

I can't reproduce this yet, but I am looking into why it might happen.

I'm running the game through proton GE 9-11 through vulkan. The issue is not that I'm unable to cap the fps, its that I cant run the game uncapped, since it locks to 60fps.

I'm running a 7900XTX paired with a 7800X3D under hyprland (wayland exclusive WM). In addition Im also running kernel 6.10.7 and mesa/radv.

I have a similar system, 7900XTX and a ryzen 3900x with kernel version 6.10.5 and i run the steamdeck/linux version of the game using vulkan. I use KDE Plasma / Wayland desktop.
At 4k resolution my fps rarely drop under 120.

In this particular case the native linux version runs great and you might want to test it/switch versions.

As someone who doesn't use Linux himself (Cockatrice does!), why is Proton used for Selaco when there's a native version available? We did not intend for Selaco to be played on Proton.

We've heard from a lot of people that that version runs much better.

Well based on the history of previous ports and the nature of how linux changes over time, with every distro being a bit different, its for stability reasons. Proton serves as an abstraction layer between the system and app, where dependencies are handled by proton. Its not uncommon for ports to break in the far future when the game is no longer maintained, while the proton version runs just fine. This is why I myself at least value good proton support over a native port.

Also I've had weird issues on the linux version like my mouse inputs are barely being registered (already reported by someone else), which isnt present through proton.

Finally, since proton manages all of the required data through prefixes, it keeps the home directory clean.

I appreciate the the presence of a native ports, its just that I'm a bit paranoid about stuff like this thanks to the history of abandoned native ports.

I currently have an issue with the native version that causes my mouse to lock up and register very limited movement. With the native version I'm hitting 200fps.
THIS POST AGAIN!!!

It keeps getting pushed among the first results to ALL researches I do about "Proton 60fps cap"...

I made a post on Reddit just now which explains some limitations of Proton, but for now I don't have the solution yet.

https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/p7mwkb/comment/mc9xfs6/

tl;dr try to regress to a older version of Proton.

Using Proton 8 with Helldivers 2 on the GT 1030 PC allowed me to actually launch the game without the Vram limit making it crash before reaching the ship's bridge.
