Anyone else getting lost really easily?
Love the game, but I'll spend a good 20 minutes trying to find out where the door I just opened is, or the next path to follow. The game has that much environmental objects and detail, it's really hard to read. Plus the maps being interconnected, it's really easy to get turned around. The map sorta helps, but you need play fill in the blanks. A compass at least might help. I don't think this is a thing unique to this game however, with the original doom maps also being maze like.

And they've also stated that they don't want to implement incremental changes to the layout, only to change it again later. It probably takes a lot of time rework the whole flow and layout of the hospital. I mean it can be confusing but it's not like it's intentionally difficult to or designed to confuse, either. The elevator was the only part where I was genuinely stuck because I didn't expect to need to cut the cables but after that I was fine.
Yeah, and I can't really pinpoint why, not only are the areas clearly distinct with their use of color and geometry, but the automap is clear and readable and the icons help (not to mention the footsteps dots). Sometimes it's because a fight has been so frantic that I get turned around. People have mentioned System Shock and Ion Fury, and I didn't get lost that often in those. I remember having trouble finding the next step during the demo that lead to the boss fight, but in this ea release I noticed that you could follow him with the sounds (and visuals) of his footsteps. Maybe that was also in the demo, if so, my bad.
The layout is not nearly as difficult to find your way around in Selaco as system shock, except maybe for the hospital section. And I respect that Nexxtic has his own vision for the game and isn’t willing to change certain things because certain players don’t like something. Players are free to leave suggestions but developers are also free to disregard them if they do not match what the dev is trying to accomplish. Most games now are way too concerned with making sure no one could possibly get confused or lost for even 5 minutes, it’s nice that a game exists like Selaco where you have to stop and think sometimes.

If I can't even get lost properly, the world doesn't feel big enough to be real, so the conflict doesn't feel important and I can't care much about the story.

All the games whose worlds I remember most fondly are ones where action and progression were interrupted frequently by just wandering around on first playthrough. Especially Hexen, Eradicator, Strife, Thief, System Shock, Hedon and Ashes among shooters.

Happy to hear Selaco is likely getting added to the list.

You should be able to get lost in Selaco if that is what you enjoy doing. And for the record for anyone reading this thread, I didn’t necro it. Someone else posted before me saying stuff about Nexxtic replying to people on Reddit and Twitter but they seem to have deleted their comment now for some reason.

I'm getting used to it lol.

Devs that dont respond -> Do not care about their job
Devs that do respond -> Responds too much and should focus more on developing

I'm sorry some people hate it when devs care about their craft to the same degree as I do.

I got seriously lost uma section where you need the BLUE and purple keys. I found the blue but not the purple
There is one nitpick I must make is figuring out the doors that we can slide beneath them or not, because when I look at majority of these doors, crevices or open/broken shafts, it seems like I shouldn't be even able to crawl/slide through them despite i can as game mechanic goes. Oh, and when you occasionally glitch yourself after sliding inside them, in vents.

For example, i didn't figure out I could somehow fit in bellow the VAC-Bot passageways after the crawler ambush. In my head, it was just a "Huh, how did i get in there?"

Then again, it might be just I'm always used to the Half Life 1-2 mentality of visual cues where I go "I probably/wont can't fit in there." "No, that path will murder me."

Even Hedon's second episode gave me a mind-♥♥♥♥ of "Huh? This text says i need to go X after grabbing Y. Where was X?" but I think their developer allow you to put notes and number around the map now. I probably should get back to that someday.
