why no lean keys?
This game, from how its designed as a F.E.A.R.-like shooter, its gotta have lean. The player takes so much damage that i feel the tactics needed to beat your enemies would benefit greatly from having a lean function, much like F.E.A.R. did

No morons, im not asking for the game to be EXACTLY like fear, quit putting words in peoples mouths. Also no, fear is not a lean simulator lean existed BEFORE FEAR! Hell i first encountered it in system shock on DOS

The game takes some inspiration from F.E.A.R., but that doesn't mean it needs to play exactly like it. It also doesn't have bullet time, and it plays just fine without it. Selaco is its own thing that pays homage to games the developers grew up playing, without straight up copying them.

The best way to play Selaco is to take cover and play with intent. Enemies always shoot projectiles, and they can be dodged with the dash key or by sliding. You can also just move out of the way if the enemy is far enough away. Anyway, if you know what you're doing, you can play very aggressively like you see Doom players do in that game, but you really have to know what you're doing before that becomes possible.

why did you say it needs to play exactly like fear? its a different game bud.

yeah just use side dashes more to take cover and dodge, or weapons that stagger good like the penetrator/dmr. I assume leaning would let you shoot around corners with no danger to yourself which I feel would detract from the core challenge of having to be vulnerable in the open to deal damage.

then add a smaller damage hitbox for leaning

I think the main reason they don't have lean is that your player character is a sprite. Whereas in First Encounter Assault Recon, its a 3d model. So peeking a small portion of a sprite out to be hit, might be complicated to do.

I think what would be more useful, is to cover peek, like in gears of war. Walk up to cover, and then peek over it.

i would love that for this game but idk if it's in the dev's sights

a smaller hitbox on lean, similar to slide would be better than no hitbox but it might still reward a corner peeking playstyle over the sliding everywhere playstyle too much, it's hard to guess. It would also require extra keybinds. It's a good idea for a mod though.

I would definitely welcome lean without using weapons just to see around the corner. I mean, since they can see through smoke we should at least be able to lean to see their movement and choose a tactic from there. We would still have a minor hitbox to worry about.

And yes, slow-mo is on the way.

Well an alternative to lean, that might be easier to implement, is what was used in Saving Private Ryan. On the beaches of Normandy, once they get up to the cliff wall, they use a small mirror to look around the corners, to avoid snipers.

Maybe a small mirror could be used here. Would mean that you can't shoot and lean, but would allow you to look around a corner, without exposing yourself.
