the game just barely came out and
most of the reviews claim it to be the best game of the decade of best shooter of all time like tf make it less obvious the reviews aren't botted

It might be the case but there are too many reviewers like this. I didn't mean they are bots, currently, it's just a fact, I might check out later, and if nothing changes guess who is gonna be a moron then? Also, keep your toxicity for your mom

This is probably the most complete boomer shooter ever released in Early Access. You are the one missing out, not us by enjoying it. It's a whopping 22 bucks, too. If you're that fearful of missing out on 22 bucks then you should find something else to do.

My review is just "Buy the damn game, i don't have time to review it." Is it an invalid review? Not at all. It just means the game is great and i don't have time to write things about it.

In fact, many reviews who did a full review just said buy the game before even going to review it. Yes, it's that good. As for reviews in general. It's the next biggest thing since Ion Fury, what do you expect? No game is perfect, but games are subjective, not objective, not to mention our reviews don't mean anything since we got the game via Patreon. So our review don't even count. The only reviews that count are the ones that actually bought the game blindly or via a review via Steam directly.

And never for a second did you think these reviews might actually be onto something?

I've been hyped for well over two years, at this point. Contemplating on whether to buy now, or wait and see what happens a year down the road, from now. What I really wanna know is how the hell were Orbit able to replicate action planning used in F.E.A.R on a GZDoom game.

Not saying that it is a 1:1 but it's damn well close, and especially sad when majority of major FPS releases have worse A.I than a game released in 2005. Impressive feat for Orbit, and pathetic on nearly every AAA studio.

What your noticing is a hive-mind, and yeah it's annoying. Hive-minds are all the rage right now.

What I see from the game, looks mid, but I have yet to try the game. I'm interested, but what turns me off at a glance, is the outdated gameplay, samey looking area's, weak A.I, and that animation gimmick.

If I buy the game, I prefer not to refund. I will only refund If I've been lied too, but not if I knew what I was getting. For better or worse.
One of the best shooters out there. Just try it by yourself.

I personally don't take Steam's review system seriously. Why? Review bombing. When people talk about review bombing they are often referring to bombing a game with loads of negative reviews. But it goes the other way as well. If you were to take the time to read most of the reviews, you'll realise that the vast majority lack any kind of nuance and independent critical thinking. You'll get crappy reviews that will say things like:

“Wolf 10/10” -Resident Evil Remake
“You can pet Kitty” -Momodora: Moonlit Farewell
“Came for the vampire, came because of the vampire. 10/10.” – BG3
“Make Us Whole.” -Dead Space Remake
“Panam Palmer” -Cyberpunk 2077

In what universe can these be considered constructive reviews? Answer: None.
What many of these "reviews" have in common is that they’ll recommend the game but don’t go into detail on why they recommended the game. There is no mention of what is good, what is bad and what needs improvement. And believe me, every game out there can do with some improvement. Like I said, the vast majority of people that post reviews completely lack nuance. If I were on the fence about buying this game, most (say 95%) of the reviews would be utterly unhelpful. And you’ll see sees type of lazily thought-out reviews on pretty much every game on Steam.

I had decided to give Selaco a try because I had watched a let's play on YouTube. It is quite a good game, but I had refunded it because I felt that It wasn't quite what I was looking for. I may give it another chance in the future, but for now I'll wait and see how the game develops.

Yeah anyway, most reviews are garbage and are not to be taken seriously.

For that kind of insight, there are reviews from various outlets and Youtubers who go into a fair bit of depth about what they like/didn't like about the game.

Steam reviews, in my view, have always been there just to get a quick gauge on a product. Are the recent reviews mixed? Let me check if they added some game-breaking update or DRM. Are the overall reviews Mixed or Negative? Maybe the game doesn't work on newer machines or is different than advertised. Is the game very/overwhelmingly positive? Then the vast majority of people are happy with their experience.

I find this to be quite a useful system even though the majority of the Steam reviews themselves will not have a lot of depth or insight to them. Personally, I always try to add a bit of detail to my reviews, but I also realize the vast majority of people won't care about that and just want to read 'game good' or 'game bad'.

First of, the game really looks amazing! And regardless of the game HYPED reviews (theres nothing wrong with that btw) I do think there's room for improvement here and there. (like any other game, right?)

The map is quite overwhelming and can be very confusing sometimes. Doors and paths should be more clear, especially because in the first hours, things look very similar in terms of ambience. Maybe some markers would help.

Also, I see the team did a nice effort to kinda convince us that Selaco is (or was) ALIVE, with the emails and data recording stuff from people that use to populate the place. I don't feel that while I'm playing, though. As much as it's well written and with interesting backstory, it feels a bit random if the actual visual stuff is not there. I understand this is not that type of game but PREY is a great example of what I'm trying to say here. That space station felt ALIVE. (Sorry if comparing is rude,)

It's worth mentioning I've been playing for a couple of hours only and I'm not a game developer. I'm also not HUUUGE on boomer shooters so this is just my humble opinion.

That said, I absolutely love the game.

I'm with you on that. I'm so done with the constant hand holding and braindead AI. Harder difficulties aren't even that hard anymore.
Senki Jun 2, 2024 @ 7:03am
if you would be able to bot reviews the big companies that keep getting mixed or negative on their slop would've done it already. Especially the ones that already do use bots on social media

well, compared to other indie-shooters Selaco really stands out ^^
Haven't had that much fun with a shooter for a long time and it shows me that many of those AAA-Shooters are pretty shallow compared to what games from the indie-scene have to offer.

The game is legit really good and was hyped on boomer shooters communities. I wouldn't consider it as the best shooter of all time but I'm having a blast and def one of the best indie shooter released recently. Run great, great maps, smart AI, is moddable and pretty much a complete game in EA

Def some room for improvement on minor details like AI on easier difficulty (might just me sucking, I'm getting wrecked on Commander but it's fun atleast), hud, sprites
