My review is just "Buy the damn game, i don't have time to review it." Is it an invalid review? Not at all. It just means the game is great and i don't have time to write things about it.
In fact, many reviews who did a full review just said buy the game before even going to review it. Yes, it's that good. As for reviews in general. It's the next biggest thing since Ion Fury, what do you expect? No game is perfect, but games are subjective, not objective, not to mention our reviews don't mean anything since we got the game via Patreon. So our review don't even count. The only reviews that count are the ones that actually bought the game blindly or via a review via Steam directly.
Not saying that it is a 1:1 but it's damn well close, and especially sad when majority of major FPS releases have worse A.I than a game released in 2005. Impressive feat for Orbit, and pathetic on nearly every AAA studio.
What I see from the game, looks mid, but I have yet to try the game. I'm interested, but what turns me off at a glance, is the outdated gameplay, samey looking area's, weak A.I, and that animation gimmick.
If I buy the game, I prefer not to refund. I will only refund If I've been lied too, but not if I knew what I was getting. For better or worse.
For that kind of insight, there are reviews from various outlets and Youtubers who go into a fair bit of depth about what they like/didn't like about the game.
Steam reviews, in my view, have always been there just to get a quick gauge on a product. Are the recent reviews mixed? Let me check if they added some game-breaking update or DRM. Are the overall reviews Mixed or Negative? Maybe the game doesn't work on newer machines or is different than advertised. Is the game very/overwhelmingly positive? Then the vast majority of people are happy with their experience.
I find this to be quite a useful system even though the majority of the Steam reviews themselves will not have a lot of depth or insight to them. Personally, I always try to add a bit of detail to my reviews, but I also realize the vast majority of people won't care about that and just want to read 'game good' or 'game bad'.
The map is quite overwhelming and can be very confusing sometimes. Doors and paths should be more clear, especially because in the first hours, things look very similar in terms of ambience. Maybe some markers would help.
Also, I see the team did a nice effort to kinda convince us that Selaco is (or was) ALIVE, with the emails and data recording stuff from people that use to populate the place. I don't feel that while I'm playing, though. As much as it's well written and with interesting backstory, it feels a bit random if the actual visual stuff is not there. I understand this is not that type of game but PREY is a great example of what I'm trying to say here. That space station felt ALIVE. (Sorry if comparing is rude,)
It's worth mentioning I've been playing for a couple of hours only and I'm not a game developer. I'm also not HUUUGE on boomer shooters so this is just my humble opinion.
That said, I absolutely love the game.
well, compared to other indie-shooters Selaco really stands out ^^
Haven't had that much fun with a shooter for a long time and it shows me that many of those AAA-Shooters are pretty shallow compared to what games from the indie-scene have to offer.
The game is legit really good and was hyped on boomer shooters communities. I wouldn't consider it as the best shooter of all time but I'm having a blast and def one of the best indie shooter released recently. Run great, great maps, smart AI, is moddable and pretty much a complete game in EA
Def some room for improvement on minor details like AI on easier difficulty (might just me sucking, I'm getting wrecked on Commander but it's fun atleast), hud, sprites
