If this comes as a surprise, maybe it was a bug with the game not properly recognising the controller? (I was on a wireless XB1 controller) From what I remember...
* None of the tutorial prompts or UI showed controller buttons, it was all still keyboard keys
* Some of the popups (ie tutorials) would dismiss with the A button, some with the X button and some none of the buttons would work, so I'd have to use a mouse to dismiss it
* None of the buttons seemed to open the build menu, so I had to use the keyboard
* For the life of me, I couldn't get my toolbar to change to the second row, or if that's not a thing, I also couldn't figure out how to swap items in my first toolbar row with ones in my second row, so that I could actually use them
I just bought this for the Steam Deck and unless I remap the controls (which is no small feat), it’s unplayable as is. Here are some issues that jumped out at me:
In Menus:
- D-Pad should be able to navigate menu options in menus
- L1/R1 bumpers should be used to navigate tabs in interfaces like the Map
- right-stick scroll control in scrollable menus (like the options > key bindings menu)
- action button should trigger menu options
- cancel button should escape the menu
- focusing on a text input should trigger the built-in keyboard
In Game:
- D-Pad L/R could be used to cycle tools/items from the bottom menu
- map a dedicated button for using an item (left-click)
- when you are near an object that you can interact with, it’d be nice to have the icon that pops up show the controller button rather than a gear
Nice to Have:
- a legend somewhere in the UI that shows hints as to what the controller buttons do
- even better, they update depending on the context (in menu, in game, etc)
If you have a chance, check out Dinkum ( a similar game that’s now in pre-release). It has excellent controller support.
For one thing, the demo should have controller support so that potential buyers can decide if it meets their needs or not. (The demo did not used to have controller support. If this has changed, please, forgive me; and someone correct me.)
Controller input, for basic "A" and "B" buttons, is currently designed to treat my XB1 controller as if it were a Switch controller. And, to be honest, if it worked consistently, i could adapt and accept the odd configuration. But it doesn't ... work consistently, that is. It's very hit or miss at this point.
I'm still deciding whether to refund the game, and as such, am spending minutes in game only to evaluate basic controller (and other) functions. But the above is my assessment to this point.
Regardless of the issues or your points you will never win anyone over talking to them like this. Chill out.
Please refrain from using offensive language. We believe anyone can convey they point across without needing to use slurs or any other offensive language.
This is a first warning, second offense will result in a temporary ban.
Just using controller you can't use shops as it just gets stuck on the x or your money in my experience
