Any of you guys ever played that obscure 3D PS2 game? Thoughts on that game?
It's kind of an obscure game and all I know about it is that its a weird 3D game with sort of third person shooting? Apparently it had mixed to negative reviews in Japan and it never left that country. I was reminded of that game because its the only other time I am aware of that the Metal Slug series tried going into a different genre besides that one tower defense mobile game. Well kind of I guess you could say this 3D game is just trying to transform the 2D run and gun gameplay into a "3D game", but I guess you could say the same thing about Tactics is trying to transform Metal Slugs traditional game play into a tactics game? Weird thing about the PS2 game is that apparently a lot of it is in English so its easy to play through despite not knowing Japanese. Think they could make another 3D third person shooter type game with Metal Slug and actually make it good? They attempted this with Contra I think a few times and it failed every time for Konami I think.

The (new) bosses were definitely on-spec for the series. I mean there was a giant walking castle and the underground cruise missile.

It does not look half bad, actually! What is supposed to be wrong with it?

I'm not sure actually but it was Japan exclusive when it came out. But clearly they had planned on releasing the game outside of Japan because apparently a lot of the game is in English. I was curious if anyone on here possibly knew why people in Japan didn't like it lol.

Lots of game IPs have tried to think "outside the box" / release spinoffs in different genres, and it tends to upset fans of the original game IP's roots. And sometimes it's that or sometimes it's a dev team being asked to do something outside of its wheelhouse that sinks it.

For almost a reverse of Metal Slug, could go back to the XCOM spinoffs XCOM Interceptor (space fighter combat) and XCOM Enforcer (3rd person shooter)

See Halo series' RTS Halo Wars and its isometric shooter Halo: Spartan Assault.

I played and didn't much like Command and Conquer Renegade, which tried a 1st/3rd person shooter spin on C&C.

More recently Deep Rock Galactic (3rd person shooter) spun off into a Vampire: Survivors type game DRG: Survivors with a digging mechanic, and fans of the initial title screamed bloody murder. :D

The soundtrack is fire, though!

Ok i booted it up, and i ran into an issue of not being able to switch weapons, and after some googling i saw that the issue is the iso itself? wtf? damn, but from what i played, yeah its aight! it looks kinda bad tho', the stylized characters did not translated to 3D super well, but its an interesting take on a 3D MG, and i gotta say, i LOVE how they did the grenade reticle, that is super helpful and honestly a bit ahead of its time.

To switch weapons in that game from what I heard I think you are supposed to hold down one of the shoulder buttons and then press on the dpad for which weapon you want to use?

Oh y'know what, thats probably it, looking at the controls it just told me ''L2 to swap weapons'', didn't know it was a combo, will try that later!
