What's the math/bug trigger behind trevor's flying blade doing no damage?

This ♥♥♥♥ is driving me insane: not only the skill deals no damage but is stops synchs from triggering. Has someone figured out yet whats the deal with this behavior?

It does deal damage if you send the enemy to a tile in front of him, I think. It seems to be a bug and I have already reported it.
