I think the game will benefit a lot from having one, for the old school feels.

reshade using the rsretroarch pack. crtfrutbunn. raise the height and width settings to 720 and 480 adjust that accordingly as it adjusts some of the blurring and overpixelation reshade.me

i uploaded a screenshot of how mine looks with the filter to encourage you or others to try and get reshade if you have not.
i put a filtered game shot and a non filtered for immediate comparison.
