About Breakdowns (Case 1 spoilers)

Was that Kristoph Gavin-esque laughing fit meant to be Pierce's "breakdown" on the witness stand?
Should I even expect breakdowns? The tone of this game seems grimmer and more serious than a standard Ace Attorney game.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Are simpler things like Sahwit's toupee toss out of the question, too? I'd have classed Pierce's laughter as something like that. He lost it.

Culprits don't really freak out in this game. They basically just look angry. Whether that's a conscious artistic decision or an economic one (sprites cost money, and the game only gathered 2/3 of the intended funding), I don't know. Some of them have downright evil sprites, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.
