how to harvest wheat?

Hello, I'm stuck at a time when I have to unlock the desert areas, I need wheat, but I can't harvest it in the fields, do I need a special tool? Thanks and good game

use your axe.

An axe is needed to chop wheat.

Thank you for your answers :) but I tried and I don't harvest anything at all it just destroys the plants!

keep chopping away and moving around the area, its not a 1-1 droprate, almost like you clear 4-5 plants one drops, so if you clear the entire bunch you might get 8, afaik they dont respawn, so just seed one more of those lands and then you can rinse repeat.
