I do agree that watering your farm is a bit tiresome, though.
But yeah, overall I'd agree with this and others that farming isn't worth the trouble/time most of the time, vs. just plonking down more biome tiles to grind, unless you're going for 20x20+ farm plots without watering.
Farming is super time intensive and the clonky UI doesn't help a bit with it.
Edit: First harvest done. Of 8 planted:
2x 2 water = 1x 4, 1x 3 harvest
2x 2 water + 2 fertilizer = 2x 4 harvest
2x 2 water + 1 fertilizer = 1x 4, 1x 3 harvest
2x 0 water + 2 fertilizer = 2x 4 harvest
Water & Fertilizer seem to only speed things up. Waiting at the moment for 12 plants who are not watered and without any fertilizer.
If that is true, that water and fertilizer affect only grow speed, that stuff is completely useless. It takes a lot of clicks and menu hopping to water and fertilize + the tons of water and bones needed.
Just build a ton of plant plots and you are good to go. Never water them, never waste fertilizer.
Not necessary - if your farm land isn't too far away (like, 1-2 block away from water source), you probably have enough time to make 2 return trip if you really want to (beside getting water off well next to the shelter). If I have to build a new (and optimized) farmland next time, I will build one tile of camp fire and then 8 surrounding it.
Actually, I found most of the crop farming are NOT really necessary (or don't need to mass-farming). It's not like you need to eat more than 3 times per day if you do fish / random animal hunting/cooking.
Just harvested 24 plots, which have never seen a drop of water or fertilizer. Most of them yielded 4.
Grinding for water is a complete waste of time.
I'm liking the game a lot largely for the make your own map aspect - I can spend oodles of time on stuff like that, layouts and efficiency - as well as a simple chill grinder re: the build up to place more tiles loop. I also like that combat is not frantic/chaotic or the near entirety of gameplay, like so many games. But people wanting more of a "sim" aspect may be disappointed perhaps.
