If you mean the general gold keys, they are random from all the usual places the silver keys can spawn in. I've had some save/games where I'd end up with maybe a dozen, others where I found ... one ... the entire time.

The sparkling chests they open aren't anything special./you aren't missing anything I would guess they have a slightly higher chance to spawn higher level ores or more coins or consumables or who knows what but there are no special/unique items in them or anything like that.

In my play through I only got like 1 the entire time. Would be nice if there was a way to obtain them, or if wolf pup had a higher chance of finding them when he digs something up.
