I loaded my save game today and for some reason there was nothing on my hotbar. When I try to put new things on there, it just shows a question mark, but the item is still used if you hit the coordinating hotkey. Any clue out there?

I'm not far into the game and having to hold 2 keys (+ a 3rd to run) to travel isometrically feels very awkward. I'm very much hoping that I get used to it soon! Any tips?
