Dungeon Alchemist

Dungeon Alchemist

Is this program worth the purchase?
I really want to try this program for some of my own map making for my campaigns but the buy in a way too steep for a program where I don't even know if the features are going to work the way I'd like them to. I'd use the Steam Refund policy, but getting a good measure of a mapping tool would take several hours for me.
I bought Dungeon Painter Studio after hours working with their free website demo version and I liked it but I can't find anything similar for this.

If the program is worth is very depending on you. Many think it is worth.
There are many videos and streams on YouTube and Twitch with people using Dungeon Alchemist (even official streams every Saturday showcasing the software and answering questions, the VODs can be found at https://www.youtube.com/@DungeonAlchemist and https://www.twitch.tv/dungeonalchemist ). Maybe this way you can check, if the features you are looking for are already included. I have to say that it is still Early Access and there are things missing, but the roadmap[dungeonalchemist.upvoty.com] is showing what is already planned and worked on. The devs are engaged with the community and listen to the wishes and needs of the community. So if something essential is missing the chances are high that it will be added sooner or later.

I think it's well worth it. I have barely used the software yet i made a ton of maps for my dnd campaign super quick. I can also DIRECTLY import to Foundry and all the walls and lights etc get put in place for me. It made ~1 hour of dev time to ~5 mins

It's also just super cool. Highly recommend it.

size is a large limiting factor though. I Find that this is great for making smaller super detailed maps, but if you need to make a whole huge tavern or castle... you need to do it in bite sized parts or it won't export or import well.

I wondered the same thing myself, and honestly, I dragged my heals for weeks. Finally, realizing I have my turn at DMing here soon, I just took the plunge.... WOWZA!!! I am SO glad that I did!!! This is SO much better than I thought it might be, and I keep discovering MORE things that make it even better!!! The only down side I see, is what others have mentioned, you must do your build in parts. For my purposes, I use NWN to make my huge city maps, Wonderdraft to make my world/huge land maps, and Dungeon Alchemist to make the smaller more detailed maps. Does it have everything? No, but I can modify things in an image editor afterwards. TWO things that make this tool AMAZING, for me, are the fact that I can import any of my Heroforge minis into the map, AND, there are elements, like picture frames and abstract structure pieces, that allow you to add your own textures!!!! That allows me to tie in very specific story elements that I create and then import into DA. Totally worth the $$$

Size is case by case factor determined by your computer specs.

The more powerful the machine. The bigger the maps you can load.

I've seen builds well over 200x200.

Please keep in mind that Dungeon Alchemist isn't meant for world maps but pretty much everything up to it.
