The next point is a spoiler for Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 (to make my point of view), so if you plan to play it, don't read :P
In the 1st game, there's two endings:
- In one, Alice (the heroine) survives the curse after the last battle, happy ending and all that
- In the another, she dies and Yuri (the protagonist) blame him self for this (well, she toke the curse to save him XD)
Now things turns interesting in the second game.
They used as cannon the BAD ENDING, where Alice dies and Yuri is in a great depression because of it and all events in this game are much better exactly because of that.
There's even a part of the story that they try to revive her with a book used for this kind of magic that plays a part in the 1st game, but like in the previews game, the spell don't works very well, just bring her soul of a few seconds just to tell how much she loved Yuri, making one of the best scenes that I saw so far in games, even without being a happy one.
Long story short, I don't have a problem with this kind of thing IF IT IS well done, of course.
Since I didn't played the original ones, just this trilogy, I would like to see how they use this ending to make a new arc, even if it is a sad one.
I'll probably comment on more of this later, but for now, I wanted to throw these thoughts out there.
The thing is... Inti Creates has quite a reputation for making great games but with depressing ending (see Mega Man Zero and the Gunvolt series), so it was nice to have a series that was not as depressing as those ones for once. But if they're gonna continue the series, and follow the original continuity to keep it going, then it would make BMZ just like the series I mentioned, and to be honest, I don't want it.
Sorry guys, I'm not gonna have a disagreement with you for this, but I gotta stand for what I believe in. I really don't want to see Jason and Eve ending like Joel from The Last of Us, so I'm just stopping on the third game, and that's it. End of the story.
Oh, don't worry, it's just a point of view that doesn't need to argue to the point to become a fight, its really just how you gonna react with their games XD
I for one like how MMZ and Gunvolt turned out (especially the IX, that last part I wasn't expecting XD), so I do hope that they continue this series, even if they don't use this route for the next one, IF THEY DO A GOOD job making the game :D
Jason's story is already over, unless they wanna make a Leibniz spin-off to tell what he did on Earth they really shouldn't touch on this storyline anymore.
About the "as long as gameplay is good" I just hope Satoru Nishizawa gets to direct another series and Inti stops bothering about making their games hard because it never works out. They should try to make a more "dynamic" game like BMZ2 and not just "wow look how much obstacles and all over the place boss patterns" like BMZ3 became and also like most of their games recently.
Yeah, I would love a spin-off with Leibniz, it would be very interesting see the event on Earth.
MMZ Series got a bittersweet ending. Zero went out for real after coming back from the dead MANY TIMES BEFORE.
Gunvolt Chronicles also ends in a warm note.
BMZ went went into multiple "directions" with the normal ending, but with the true/good ending being the canon, possibly being Sunsoft's idea. Bad/Normal endings: BMZ1: Eve strands herself in the Super-Dimensional Space and, given how we find her, chances are she would just die there. BMZ2: Eve, Fred and Jason are lost forever in Area Omega, with Eve slowly dying, Fred broken up and still alive, and Jason in an "And I Must Scream" state. BMZ3 possible has it the lightest: to stop Mutants from ever surfacing again, Eve strands herself in the Super-Dimensional Space and is unable to confess her feelings to Jason, but that leaves the implication that in the future Lightning Beings would attack and they would have NO MEANS to counter them.
I feel like a lot of people forget that's ALSO Inti Creates.
Umm… The Gal*Gun games take place before Gunvolt. A lot of the main cast’s families are pretty messed up by the time Gunvolt plays out. One of the Kamizono sisters died while Copen and Mytyl were young, namely.
