I recommend never discarding/selling gold coins
Always keep one handy (or get the Cat's Blessing, which costs a gold coin)
Once you know the limitations of the AI (which is purposely simplistic - ie. they can barely see or hear, will forget about seeing you in literally 5 seconds, also there is no downside to being seen, just run, hide, come back 30 seconds later), you can easily navigate around them. But to be clear, your goal won't be to just avoid them but to get the advantage and kill them.
If you like "normal guns" (revolvers, rifle etc), this will be enjoyable to play.
If you like "hands on" (axe, knife etc), this will be enjoyable to play.
If you want to use those "all guns blazing", it's doable. Not sure if enjoyable, but the game lets you do it. Expect things to be harder on you if you fight like it's DOOM.
The "issue" is that there is a learning curve to it. It will feel like a normal (ie. the "boring" kind of stealth you don't want) for a few hours until you finally understand how the game is "meant" to be played.
I'd recommend watching someone playing Chapter 2 or 3 on youtube, that person will most likely be familiar with the game and you should see what I mean by "quite fast paced stealth".
Peek, assess the situation, wait rarely more than 20 seconds for the tables to turn in your favor, enter the room, do the deed, loot the area, repeat.
I went in with a "this game doesn't look like I'm going to like it but I'm starving for stealth" and ended up being the best game I played in years. If you're going with a "it looks interesting", you should give it a try, and most importantly, give it a chance.
I basically hated each new chapter for a few hours, ended up liking the entirety of the game. This game won't hold your hand, it probably takes 5 hours to really "get it". Even now, I just bought the DLC and I don't like it much. I'll probably like it in a few days from now.
Here's a video of mine, this was probably my 6th playthrough of the first chapter, you'll see how comfy I am with enemy AI, how quickly I deal with a room with a handful of enemies.
Just watch a few minutes starting at 41:35, I clear a whole building, you'll see, it's not "boring" stealth.
"This video is private"
the revolver reloads slowly. crowds of enemies that need to be blown up or run away from.
in act 2 I have a health medallion and can tank
in act 3 I can turn the game into a casual shooter or slasher.
you can play through stealth and without it all depends on t3 factors
- build of weapons, items and skills
- skill and knowledge of loot and mechanics
- fun and dopamine

personally for farming ammo by going to the main menu and reloading the revolver makes the gameplay longer.
if you create a build for 200% stealth, then you will kill non-stop.

for the revolver you need the skill for fast reloading, gloves for reloading and eyes for long range can be useful for snapping
and you are dead or running for your life

No worries, and thank you for sharing that.
Unfortunately I can tell from that video this game is not something that would interest me after all; but thank you for taking the time to humour me.
Sometimes I choose to not engage enemies
One difference that impacts your (tactial) approach in BW is that, unlike Stalker, in which random enemies patrol will usually walk away after a while, enemies are usually fixed to a position, and the few that patrol follow a fixed path
