Still not updated with this ability, it's the one disappointing thing about this game imo.

No, you can't and probably, you never will be able to return to ''older maps'' since it would make 0 sense; devs said something 'bout NEW GAME + tho, which I hope

would take a bit of work, I tried to force going to an older map, but you'd have to reset several game flag/states or else defeating the boss (act 1) and agreeing to leave (Act 2) will just shuffle you along to the next map (so if you completed act 1, it's just keep sending you back to act 2, if you completed act 2, the whole chain will push to the next map until act 3)

now this would be a bit of work for a modder. For the dev they should be able to just create something for a NG+ to just take data from a complete save and inject that into the new NG+ save.
