Is there any reason NOT to use the bell artifact?
This should be a potion or a power up instead of an artifact.
There is no way in hell anyone would want to part with it unless they're confident that they found everything it reveals.

It's just not a good game mechanic as a whole imo.

I actually am almost done Act 3 (I think) and have never used the bell. What exactly does it do? I read the description, but I mean, are there things it will make appear that won't show up if you are simply observant?

You're welcome. :)
But yeah, I agree the whole thing is not really good game design. I think, that the devs have overdone it with all the secrets in chapter 3. The chaos dice is another example of things going horribly wrong.

You sacrifice an artifact slot for the opportunity to find hidden doors, it's fine imo

I don't agree. People will not sacrifice an artifact slot, they will clear the map and then run around in circles to find the hidden doors. This thing is not interwoven with the normal way you play the game, but to articifally stretch out the chapter.
With the keys in chapter 1 it is different, because you can come across them just out of curiosity by normally playing the game.

The same thing is happening with the chaos dice, you have a chance to be teleported every 5 minutes by 1/6, which means statistically it takes 30 minutes until a teleport happens, then you have a 1/4 chance to be teleported to the location of the black raven skull. I understand, that the devs want to limit the access to our horse buddy, because it kinda "breaks" the game, but this is the wrong way to do it.

What happend was, that I cleared the entire map, equipped the bell and started running around, that entire ordeal took me maybe an hour or an hour and a half only walking around the map without actual gameplay.

Then I started rolling the dice and I started spamming purple to take it on and off again and again and again. After having gone through all purple potions without the wanted result, I started spamming dynamite to kill me to take off the dice and put them on again. After doing this for about another hour, I finally arrived in the cave with the raven skull.

So what is the result of all of this? I spent nearly 3 hours running around and fiddling with my inventory in the base. That is not gameplay, that is just annoying. So what will happen in my subsequent runs?

1. I won't bother visiting my horse buddy, because to kill the boss it only takes fanning, the chain pistol and gold ammo.
2. Since the locations of the hidden areas don't change, I will keep the bell in my inventory and equip it when needed. There is no tradeoff, nothing, because I now know where they are.

And that is the issue with chapter 3. When I played chapter 2, I know now many more things than I did when first playing it, but all my knowledge only helps me to plan other routes and does however not allow me to skip significant parts of the chapter. That is different in the third one. There you can skip the iron mine, the silver mine, the town area close to the doc, the hunters' lodge and the sawmill. Who the hell thought, that this would be good game design?

With most good relics being out in the open why would anyone waste a slot to find a few secrets in an already large map?

You made a thread stating it’s an issue or in this case wasting an artifact slot for at most 6 doors in the entire chapter.

You really think anyone wants to scour the entire map AFTER having already explored everything once? No way. I can only look at 1 rocky wall texture so much before I get tired of it. I'd rather keep jumping in random tree trunks looking for treasure 100 more times than bother. It's just not a good game mechanic.

Yeah I had no idea that the bell did that from the description. I also wish you could teleport to other beds.

You can. You just need a chicken head in your inventory and you must have at least visited the bed once you want to teleport to.

Interestingly enough, theres a secret wall right next to the altar where you find the bell. I guess the assumption was that the player would immediately put on the bell, and see the secret tunnel. Not a bad idea.
