Clearly it was no regular knife, stash it the stash is right there.
I assume done of two things:
1) The item is rendering wrong with some graphics glitch
2) The devs added a new shader to light up loot around the level.
Since there's no reason to assume a crucial quest item would be sitting right at the spawn, I decided to sell it to despawn it. Figured if loot is now supposed to be bright red I'll see that effect again in the future.
My assumption is they added a free knife to the start of the game in case someone entered chapter 3 with no ammo and melees of their own. A failsafe for careless players, which happened to load wrong for me or something the like. Turns out it was a quest key.
Thanks for the tip about the dice. I'll go look for it along the track.
