I've been asking myself that same question after beating this game. Unfortunately Alawar seems busy focusing on other projects right now. I hope they get around to making a sequel otherwise what's the point on having the game end the way that it did.

They have to make a sequel, would be stupid not to with how great the game is.

To me it feels like this game was meant to be a self-contained story but the developers ran out of time and money. To call that ending a cliffhanger is being generous. It's more like if in Super Metroid, when you got the hyper beam the game suddenly went to the end credits.

Katana ZERO moment, but there at least was an announcement, here is complete radio silence. Such a pity, absolutely love this game.
