Games like this?
This is a perfect example of how much stuff is out there and goes undetected by lots of people. I think I found it by a casual link reference in an article about another game, and I often discover stuff through strange paths like that. Anyone have any other great similar games in this style...i.e. these kind of rpgs not necessarily pixel etc but stuff like this, Caves of Lore, Svarog's Dream, ATOM Rpg and its sequel, Chained Echoes, anything in those veins that perhaps has been hidden from my grasp. So much undiscovered great stuff and all Steam wants to recommend me in the queue is trashy crap because "its popular". I know I have not played everything worth playing.

Well that is quite the mix. I see ATOM RPG in there, a fallout homage.

Id suggest Underrail.
Already played Underrail.
Stoneshard is the only other one i can think of atm but it is still in EA. I used to find a lot of games i had never heard of before when streamers did variety days. Lirik/Cohh/Soda often play a ton of games like this even if only to try them out for a short time (or at least they did)

Good games with worlds that are rough and a bit bleak?

Colony Ship is a tactics RPG like ATOM and has the same post-apocalyptic vibes.

Children of Morta is great for a hack and slash RPG. Flashier than Svarog. It can feel more like a bullet-hell at times.

I recommend Battle Chasers for something like Chained Echoes. Turn-based JRPG-style combat, a similar mix of fantasy and hi-tech.

Wartales is a good open-ended RPG if you want to control larger groups like in Caves of Lore. A group as big or small as you want to manage. Even as many as 50 people/animals. I've done a run with 2 characters (that ended in failure).

Roadwarden is excellent if you don't mind text-based RPG's.

I will check out Nightwar thank you. I have the others.

Since you also played Underrail, you might enjoy "Eschalon Book 1" and its successors 2 and 3. I can't fully say it's a "game like this" but I bought Drova in the hope of scratching my Eschalon-itch^^
You need to have a heart for old school games, but I like this game because it's not trying to be more than it is, it's not bloated but with a lot of secrets and puzzles to solve, neat mechanics and also very difficult on the first run. Book 1 is even free, so trying out can't hurt :)
