I just finished act 1 and jumped immídiately to act 3 because I did things that let me skip act 2. I finished act 1 with level 19. But I think I did over 95% of the content act 1 has to offer and killed all enemies available.
But actually you don't need to do this. Level 7 should be fine. I think this game offers alot of tools that allow you to take down foes that are stronger then you.
So what I would suggest you: The fight you are talking about is fought by many NSCs. So you have some "meatshields" that can take a beating for you. If you go down to fast, then concentrate on using bow or slingshot. Even if you didn't level it yet, it's safer. IDon't think about the physical damage you deal. What's important is the stance damage you deal. Stunning opponents helps the wood cutters to do the rest for you. Another really good early game damage output can be achieved with jagged knives. They cause bleeding and if you hit multiples, you stack bleeding which will definitely help you to get the big ones down. You could also place crow's feet, which are brutaly overpowered. But they are mostly good when you have time to prepare before the battle starts. In this case, you had to go into close combat to place them in a good position. You can also use poison knives to slow down enemies. Even if you don't do much damage, it helps the others from the woodcamp to stay in battle longer and take those wood creatures out for you. And last but not least: Use your ressources. Always consume food so that you have natural regeneration and also use your ointments/potions to heal yourself. Put them in a quickslot (V for example) to use them fast during battle.
And if that doesn't help, don't be afraid to play on explorer difficulty. The game is really hard if you just follow the storyline without exploring.
