On topic, I feel that the bears are the coolest enemies in the game and sort of analogous to Gothic's trolls - a big, burly bruiser enemy that can be beaten at low levels with sufficient skill and prepartion, often guarding great loot. The "stun anything you perfect block" skill for the shield does make them pretty trivial, but shieldtanking a 500 pound ursine makes you feel pretty badass.
