More seriously That door gets opened once Lorthiz nudges you about the Dreams [in my experience after meeting him in Act 1 west outside the woodcutter's camp, he can be found later {even within the same Act} in that one tavern that Olaf runs]--it's when he goes out [past Act 3, outside the right side of the tavern above Talon/Cay] where he begins talking to you about dreams and cryptic messages as letter/drawings; the first drawing details that exact door given the switch are the two skeletons on the left.
Sidenote but I've no idea what happens to him after you finish that series of dream quests. He's also apparently named after a tester in the credits!
He just vanishes, and asking Olaf about the guy gives you nothing, since only you could see him apparently. Very mysterious hehehe, maybe he was from another world like you.
P.S. I use a lot Misty Step (since its unblocked Ch4) to move around, so I don't know if the tiny fish lake with the fossil is accessible before Ch4.
