Stamina runs out fast though, especially for dodging.
And sometimes I have trouble with block inputs not being registered (because I pressed the button during an animation, which means holding it down will do nothing. Then I have to press and hold quickly again, or simply panic and dodge away.
The best solution ist to come back at a later stage of the game when you are stronger. At the beginning a lot of enemies especially human ones are just to strong to fight.
Always complete garbage when programmers use cheating AIs that do things a player can't. Nonstop ability spam is inexcusable
3 human enemies spamming skills however good luck "skilling" your way through that. It seems clear to me, the outset of this game was to have more meaningful combat, like souls games where you fight 1 on 1 or small packs and it morphed into this.
Now the game DOES give you tools in the form of traps, grenades and such. I simply refused to use them(outside of 1 fight I did NOT want a scripted loss). Also decked out in the best armor/s, weapons and spells, the challenge mostly falls off.
Believe it or not, you can in fact spam abilities - and much scarier abilities than them, further into the game, if you build for it.
When starting out, if faced with 2 or 3 enemies, especially humans, you will have to kite them. You have neither the stamina to dodge everything, nor the armour to duke it out.
Two: You are not supposed to tank nor dodge stuff as a basic response to an attack. That one is actually running around, positioning yourself away from an attack, or to a position you yourself can attack safely from. Enemies usually commit to a direction with an ability, there's no re-targeting auto-aim or whatnot, so you needn't worry.
Three: Running in the direction of facing a cursor is much faster than back-paddling or side-stepping. Not a thing you can find out immediately, sometimes. But once you do, it's a game changer.
This took me a while to understand, so I get that some people also might not see it right-away.
Once you get the hang of it, you can finish almost every combat in the game and not getting hit by just moving. It takes some player's skill, and some good anticipation, but it's doable.
On top of that, the game is so thoughtful that it actually allows the player to build around dodging or blocking later on—should you choose it as a build option.
