There should be a cave entrance in the north-east-ish part of the area. When you enter there'll be a short cutscene showing a person running off.

The cave is NNE, kind of far from the lumberjack camp. You have to cross the little "islands" scattered in the mess of rivers and streams NE of the Lumberjack camp. There's like, 3-4 caves roughly in that area (probably a 3-4 minute walk between each one, so not terribly close together). Just keep checking all the caves you see until you stumble into the right one.

The correct cave is relatively close to the mass of ruin clutter blocking the road East of The Pit. If you've ever been there and wondered how to bypass the roadblock of rubble, the cave you're aiming for is the way.

This seems to be referring to the cave north of the shrine, which spits you out on the other side of the blockage you mentioned. I don't recall seeing any cutscene entering that cave and I don't see anything left to do in that area. There is a ruins with no apparent entrance (The very most North East ruin on the world map).

I had cleared it all out prior to this quest, if that matters.

Is this the right area?

edit: Found it.. Follow the footsteps all the way. If you'd been there before, during this quest the cave it takes you to changes.

Any chance you could be more specific with the entrance to the cave? I’m really struggling and any help would be appreciated!

https://ibb.co/VY75LwY (Hope that works. Entrance is where the yellow arrow is (follow the cave and stay rightish (or kill the spiders too)), you can walk there from where the cursor is (the cave below is just another bear))
