It's part of an optional quest where you collect 3 fossils. The first one can be picked up from a woman in the in the swamps southmost of Nemeton. A merchants point you to the other locations and the last one unlocks that door for you.

The questreward is the strongest item in the entire game. :) And the quest itself is quite spooky.

yeah what is up with that ending?

I didn't really pay much attention to the dialogue. He seemed to know the future but after the quests ends he disappears and apparently nobody has ever seen him in Drova.

Did he even exist? Is he the dude that gives us the ring in the cave? What happened there?
