It's only obvious once you find the item. Until then you could be excused for not even considering that such an item might exist.

It was my case, i found the ram just now. Up til now, i didn't even imagine a ram idol would be an item

I figured it'd be something like a ram's horn, so when a "horn" finally showed up I got all excited and ran back to the shrine.

... and nothing happened.
