Crazy Woman?
Can I just kill her and take the item or do I have to wait until she dies and then take the item from her? Would that make a difference?

Not sure you can actually attack her. Between chapter 2 and 3 she actually dies and you can start a hidden quest. The mapmaker is your go to person.

You can just kill her (she's already dead anyway), afaik it only slightly changes the dialogue.

May I ask how you found this? (Asking beforehand because I've never experienced this aside from after she x.x's in act 2+ despite having a golden ending//completionist game)

You can kill her. I did that in my first playthrough, but reloaded because I feared of missing something. But now I'm playing on Ironmode and therefore no turning back :D
you can lead the monster near her to swipe at you and kill her if you stand near her if you want feel like waiting for her to drop dead since you cant attack her yourself it seems
I occasionally say the same thing to myself in the morning when I come in to the kitchen for coffee and see my wife standing there.
A heavy attack will kill her, but I’m still not sure if killing her or letting her die naturally changes anything.
