Very frustrating
The game is not easy even in classic mode. You get killed quickly. Difficulty in getting coins. There is no normal way to progress. The creatures are too strong, so you have to find creatures that you can kill because the creatures do not regenerate. Difficulty in gaining experience and training. A map that is not really useful. There are really no signs or anything.

It would be nice if they added simple jobs and creatures that come back to life, and also lowered prices in stores.

when you poke enemy with best weapon you can get for 10 minutes and nothing happens, you absolutely can't get any info about what is wrong.

Could someone address this? I’m considering getting the game but this comment gives me pause.

Some enemies, most notably big ones and armored NPCs, are just really strong endgame enemies. They have high armor and hit like a truck. This is fine, if you could easily beat them at level 1 with a branch, they wouldn't have survived this long. Either come back later to beat them or use spell scrolls/traps. No enemy is just randomly OP, it's just the player needs more gear and experience to beat them. Also, armor has a massive impact. High armor makes previous 1-shot attacks merely tickle you if you upgrade. So if you hit an enemy and the hp bar doesn't move, it's armor just severely outclasses you attack. Get stronger (strength increases your dmg % flat) and come back later. Get the game, it's good and fair.

Many open world games let you wander into areas that are way too difficult for you.
This can be a win if you are good because sometimes you can sneak in and loot some higher tier gear early game if you know what you are doing but it can be bad for a newbie.
I would imagine this is a case of someone just poking content they are not ready for. There are a lot of areas and enemies that are pretty easy to kill at all level ranges and it's just a case of finding them. That's certainly not always easy in this game.
Some games have maps that show the level ranges of enemies on their wikis or guides for it at least but I have not looked if this one does.

theres no handholding in this game, yes. and thats what makes it so good.

you get a map for free early on, buy ink and you can set your own marker.

learn lockpicking + poaching skills as soon as you can -> more loot, more money.

use the rightclick detective mode as often as you can to find all the little secrets -> more loot, more money.

do all the stuff around woodcutters camp, explore north + south of it.
then go to remnants camp and the silvermine, do all the quests until you can join them, but dont join them. you should be around lvl 10 by then.
make your way to nemeton, do the quests on the way (tavern), do all quests in nemeton until you can join them.
now join one of the factions, which appealed more to you.

try out all weapon styles, pick one and stick with it.
you can combine it with one of the range attacks (bow or sling), if needed. i recommend bow, if going 2handed (axe/daggers), sling if you are going one handed (spear/sword).

you can combine onehanded (spear/sword) with a shield in offhand.

dont use the plants with permanent stats boosts early on, save them. you can make potions with them for even greater stat buffs (requires alchemy skill).

use food at all times, it gives slow healthregen and other useful buffs.
save as many of the red healthplants and shrooms as you can, you need them to craft healthpotions later on.

that are my tips from two playthroughs. if you need quest/mapmarkers and scaling mobs, this game problably isnt for you or you have to grit your teeth and get through it.

Huh, this is interesting because I've just made it to the remnant camp and i'm level two. The enemies i can kill(not many) don't give any xp, and the others just wipe me out. Not sure what else I'm missing.

Edit: Ok I did some searching around the woodcutter's camp like you suggested and found some things to do, also i guess i hadn't 100% some of the quests in the camp. When I finished those off I gained a couple of levels.

An excellent video analysis!
Thanks for the recommendation :)

I’m gonna have to agree. Combat can be very frustrating because it’s clunky and enemies are overtuned (it almost made me quit the game). I’m all for a challenge, but the combat style doesn’t help when it comes to hard enemies because there are no “skills” you can use. If you’re going to have a “souls-like” combat, you better be damn sure your combat mechanics are down to perfection. And the fact that, as another person said, only the player is affected by the lack of focus can make it even more frustrating.

But what makes me endure are the other aspects of the game.

Maybe nit picky on my part, but it's Gothic-like combat not Souls-like. I believe this game gets most of its inspiration from Gothic which predates Darks Souls by a decade.

Many "skills" are not attached to focus. For example, we can't perform a perfect block and parry until we learn it from a trainer. Like in Gothic, our character starts the game literally not knowing how to properly hold a sword. We're told to stay on the main road in the beginning for a reason.

When we learn more from trainers, we get better combos and more skills at our disposable separate from abilities requiring focus.

I stopped playing. The fact that an npc (a bear in this case) can corner you and there is no way to get out no matter how many times you hit it, and you’ll have to die to be free from that corner is absolutely stupid.

Too many better games to bother with this ♥♥♥♥.

I did 5 playthroughs: classicx2, insane, ironman and hardcore, killed all the bears everytime and not once have I been cornered by a bear that lead to my death.

Impressive.

Good luck on your next endeavors and thanks for supporting the devs.

You played the game. You didn’t play in every scenario.

The story didn’t hold my interest to want to continue. Otherwise I would have endured the terrible combat.

Did you really play soulsgames? Because in every one of those the enemy has no stamina bar, same thing here, no focus for enemies, they attack in paterns, learn the movesets or die, thats it, combat is Gothic influenced but this is similar to souls, git gud is just knowning your enemy.
