How to defeat "shaman" enemies?
Hello, I came upon this "shaman" type of enemy.
Probably not its real name, but I'll try to describe it:
It's a tall biped, wears a mask made from a stag skull and carries a staff.
His most dangerous attack consists of summoning sh*tloads of glowing orbs that home in on you and explode.
Cooldown on this ability seems to be ridiculously short.
Even while there are still orbs active (and chasing you), he will just summon new ones.
It looks like you can theoretically destroy these orbs by attacking them, but as there are so many of them it's practically not possible, especially since he keeps summoning additional orbs all the time.
He can also summon other enemies, although those aren't too hard.
However, either he or one of his minions can also cast root trap, which - in conjunction with these homing orbs - basically means a guaranteed death sentence.
Then he has another attack where he kneels down and seems to sap your life essence, causing green orbs to emit from your chest, which do a ton of damage to you and fly towards him (they might be healing him, but I'm not certain about that).
This attack is also really nasty, as once he starts to cast this spell it will continue damaging you even if you try to run away from him.
He also has some kind of ground stomp attack which will deal damage in a circular area around him and knock you back.
I'm currently in Act 4 and so far I have managed to beat every enemy I came upon, even if that required multiple attempts for some of them.
However, I have fought this particular enemy now for at least 30-35 times and still not managed to defeat him.
My main weapon is a spear (epic).
Switching to either a sword or a bow didn't help either.
I also tried to use bear traps on him as well as crow's feet, but unfortunately that didn't help at all, as his dangerous attacks are all ranged.
Neither did using up all 3 of my fiery shout scrolls on him (which would have been a ridiculous expense for a single enemy anyway)...
Also, I want to mention that it is nearly impossible to build up enough focus for using any of my abilites against this specific enemy, as I will get hit non-stop by either his stupid orbs or his unavoidable leech attack.
So how can I defeat this f***ing enemy?

oh. I killed all these in act 1. I hit them really hard with a big axe. Their max stance is really low, so the axe stance damage plus heavy blow basically kept him on the ground most of the time. Knocking him down seems to be the only way to stop the drain, and the axe's wide swings make the homing fireballs slightly easier to deal with.

Focus potions if you're having trouble getting skills out? Stack up some bleeds to maximize dps? Wear all your 12 antimagic rings? Wait until the fireballs are closer to you then move through him so you're hitting both him and the fireballs. Presumably in act 4 you can just cast whirling energy, which I imagine would clear fireballs for you?

One of the earlier quests in act 4 (at least, for remnants; dunno if nemetons do these in the same order) nets you a legendary spear, so if you just run through that first one on the knoll you might do better afterwards.

Same, used axe and slapped them. Timed their stamina bar for when they did the life drain attack.

Wasnt very hard with axe tbh.

ok, ear me out, im sure im a bad player and there might be an easier way.

im playing on insane mode iron save, i think i had to wait for the bygoness armor (picked light, i guess heavy might be a little bit more ez on the shamans or rune idk) just be sure to be able to build enough focus to be able to use shattering blow any time is needed, that needed time being when he cast the life drain spell, shattering blow will stop it right away. i have barbarian axe i think, also had to use 2 small healing potions during the fight.
If you have the shield ability with the stun on perfect block, you can disrupt the Leshen life drain by perfect blocking it (probably the easiest way, since you don't have to rely on focus or consumables). Apart from that, jump back from his ground slam and try to kill all the wisps he summons. I did it in act 1, but I did have the Bandit Heavy Armor, which, together with the +12 MR accessory, gives you pretty good defence against his attacks.

Bleed works pretty well against them, there's one near some brambles that you can kill pretty easily by getting him stuck on them and then just focusing on defence until the bleed does its thing.

I tried with ***50*** Magic Resistance, and his life-leach completely destroys me in a few seconds. Worse, the life-leach drains my Focus so I can no longer try to stun him and it even breaks my stance (stuns) instead. Argh.

EDIT: BUT I found a way to beat him.
Solution: if you stick very close to a large stone, and hide behind it, the Leshen does not attack you. Is this by design or a bug, I am not sure. Maybe the Leshen needs to have a line-of-sight many seconds before attacking. I beat two Leshens this way; mostly with bleed damage.

If you go for a mind build you can use the melee range spell with the guaranteed 1 second stun to keep it from doing much, unfortunately the cast time on the orb summon is fast so you wont always be able to stop it but life leech can be removed from play by this method

Mind build allows for 70 plus focus just to be clear
