Is there a way to remove the 'chest' icon that was added in last patch ?
I find the new chest icon on top of the other icon is blocking what is on the site - esp if there is an enemy army in some cases - is there an option to remove these ?

Funny I was just stopping back by to ask the same thing. I don't find this new icon at all helpful and to be brutally honest about it, find the rendering to be sub-par to everything already on the map, including whatever lurks below these rather silly looking loot boxes.
There is a toggle for it; Settings -> Game -> Highlight Harvestable Locations.
Switching it to 'off' removes the treasure chest icons that have sprung up all over the map.

Good news, switching it off next time I'm in-game.

A good number of people complained about not seeing lootable locations, so we wanted to make them very obvious. But yes, simply toggle off and be rid of them :)

Never had an issue, but this does make me think of one place where I might find this useful, do they show up on the zoomed out map?

I love it and am glad it's there.

I'm more focused on UI/UX and gameplay than graphics so I really like the chest icon.

That's because you're hardcore. Everyone knows only noobs enjoy graphics.

I mean I'm not opposed to slick graphics but if I have to pick in a tradeoff I'd rather have mechanical quality.

A specific example would be AoW4. Some of the map elements *look* very nice but the overall result is a very "visually busy" map that makes it harder to know what is going on at a glance.

On the other side, ASCII doesn't really do it for me. I *can* handle it but I'd prefer tilesets. DWarf Fortress for instance is simply better with the tilesets.

Have you guys considered something like making the border of hexes with loot glow gold or something? Maybe that's less obtrusive than the chest icon which can sometimes make it hard to see what is on the tile? It doesn't bother me too much but clearly many people dislike it.

I also think golden light is a good idea

I think the original symbols were much better - having a pick axe over ore et all; without the chest it is hard to find ore and similar.
