While you are right that you can't make a unit both Possessed and Dreaming at the same time, if you play your cards right you *can* have a unit that is both a Demon and Dreaming. This can lead to some pretty stellar stat buffs, especially if you also give them a possessed item.
Oh, one other thing to consider is that only Demonologists can remove a Dream from a unit without killing them!

A quest will pop up about an airship called "The Sale." You need to go to it. I think it is triggered by main story progress, not turn number, as I encountered it by like week 6.
Edit: Thinking about it some more, it could have also been my mage's rank. I did both pretty fast that game.
