Vulture is super useful for early game and on units like crossbows or troll spear thrower.
Smoker to my memory does not affect demons so your units are fine if they are possessed. But I might be mistaken.
Pawn is rather easy to level up, start by putting them on your cultist as they sacrifice themselves to make cults or just summon or and suicide the units you don't care about.
Gourmand is not that bad if you have a unit with a mage that can summon demons. You level it up by applying bandages and such. Mix 2 of them and it's great for front rows.
Tourist was the one I spammed the most. All my units that cost no gold or low tier units had one. Super easy to level and it makes you very rich early on.
My favourite must be mixing the tourist with with the rook. You get speed, less upkeep and more HP.
Paradox is also easy to level, I think it's an exploit but just put the demon on the unit before you select it's level up ability. Basically if you have 5 units that levelled up you can switch the demon from all those 5 units and it counts.
Arbiter can take time, but a priestess of tiara with thunder storm for ex can rank it up quickly by killing undead who have many mages often.
