Gathering resources
Newbie question here. Am I correct in understanding that I can only gather what's in the domain of my tower plus however many lodges I can build? I was wondering if I'm missing something as by the midgame I always seem to be low on gold and mana... and yes, I know about rebuilding lodges / moving the tower. It just seems like there are very few resources to be found, and the richer ones are usually guarded by strong stacks / in enemy territory :/

Later you can use instant castle spell if you happen to have corresponding school page and research it. The spell allows to create your domain without tower/lodge.

For passive gathering yes. Though you also have several tower rooms that grant gold and mana income, and building the barracks for a given race will give you free upkeep on three of their units.

Yes, but building a lodge is free. Doesn't matter if the new location only grants you an extra gold per turn, it's still better than zero and if you do happen across a more lucrative region you can always move the lodge. Tower is a bit trickier as by the mid-game I find it's usually being used as a transport helicopter (or unlocking Allfire nodes and the like).
Also helps to have at least one worker group harvesting resources all the time. Even if you don't have a use for pumpkins you can still sell them, and for the artificer and alchemist you can use them to churn out low level glyphs/potions and sell them for a bit more cash.
Depending on your spell books there's also options to extend the duration for resource locations by a few turns. If you have the mana spare it can be worth using them if you know your tower/lodge is going to be sat in a particular location long enough to make use of it.

Gold tends to be a pretty rare resource, whereas mana generation steadily rises as you play the game and unlock more allfire nodes. Resource management is a very important part of this game, but players have discovered tricks to helping with this.

Free upkeep units are important, militia, zombies, slaves, follower perks/glyphs, dwarves with gold affinity.

There is a room extension that gives everyone greedy. Artificers can make Graverobber I glyphs to farm and sell remains.

Lytra gets 10 gold a day once her quest is complete.

Stacking rooms that give gold or gold upkeep.

You can also get an airship from Grey Dusk Vale. It's domain area is very small but it can move and grab more resources for you.

Thanks for the answers, I guess I need to keep searching for richer resource deposits / find more zero upkeep units or something. It's funny that my tower or lodge will have +3 or +4 gold income (which depletes), meanwhile a single higher tier unit costs 30-40 gold plus 4 upkeep, lol.

You are supposed to produce most units in your tower.
Also I was able to win balanced game despite such income

Could always play mentalism. School pretty much revolves around manipulating your economy.

Yeah you either use no upkeep units, gold affinity/mana affinity tier 1 money printers, or you use one or two power stacks funded by your tower rooms to win the game - there isn't much traditional economic development in this game, as it's more of a wizard tower simulator
