I think the question is what type of gameplay your are looking for.
Here on this fanmade website you can see an overview of the main game entries and their gameplay styles with key-features:
https://www.spellforce.info/tab_thegames_features.php?lang=EN
I think there will be something you will like under all the games.

This one is turn based and sort of 4x. A mix of Master of Magic, Thea, Age of Wonders and Fantasy General 2.
How much better it is depends on what you looking for.
The link works fine. Just give it a little time to load because of the animations.
And in my eyes it's easily the worst SpellForce. Maybe they released it too early or I just don't like anything that even remotely smacks of 4x, who knows.
But to say that this half-mobile game is better than SF3 after all the additions is ... nonsense. You can like it better than 3, but better it is not.
This is SpellForce, how can it be so bad, so boring?
I can and will say that this game is much better because i think so.
If you like my answer or not, wayne....
I'd say you can't compare them. This is an turn based exploration game, with complex and cool mechanics in the same game world and with references to the lore of Spellforce. The story is ok, crafting mechanic is entertaining and the different magic branches allows a fair replayability if you like to discover different playstyles.
Spending 6 hours playing this and deciding you hate it suggests a relatively short attention span so it shouldn't be too long.
On the other hand you may be one of those that enjoys grinding on stuff you hate on, in which case it could take a bit longer.
I think I'll go with a week to 10 days.
/ the clock starts ticking, will be fun to see how long you last
