There are ingredients with 1-5 pips in the game. There are amplifiers also which give extra pips to what you already have. For instance, adamantium can give 6 pips in some cases.
If you are alchemist, you can easily combine ingredients into better ones like you did in your first alchemist quest. Artificer can do it as well, but not that efficiently.
You can either try different receipts yourself or check Steam guides, there is a separate one for every class.
That's what I mean, the only thing I found with 3 pips so far was a nice artifact I got as a quest reward and was hoping to equip it on my apprentice. Everything else is just 1-2. I guess I just need to play and explore more. I'll also check out the guides - playing artificer atm.
Yeah I knew that, but even those are rare unfortunately. Most of what I found in loot sites, mined or harvested has just had one color pip, or maybe 2 of different colors.
Slightly related question, I know how for artificer once you create a rune the recipe for it appears, but for several stronger ones, the recipe didn't appear and I had to remember how I made it if I wanted another one. Is this a bug, or another mechanic I'm not aware of?
As artificier you can also craft your way up but its very expensive since ore and glyphs are worth a lot of gold to sell.
You need to save up your high level alchemy materials for room extensions.
As alchemist you can create items with 3 pips from items with 1-2 pips.
But it's mostly refine to better items, then use those items. Or explore the mean bad places.
I do that until I was able to get more powerful mats.
And as someone else said you will soon also see opportunities to buy 3, 4, and even 5 pop mats in stores in cities.
