Heros
I read that you only get one Hero unit per campaign (not apprentices). I am not sure if this is true but so far every campaign I've started has had a different Hero join my ranks. Does anyone know if they are random or if they correspond to your spell schools? Thanks!

Random. If you reject one, another one will turn up in a week or so, but you can not get more than one.

Thank you, I wanted a specific one and was not sure how to do it. Really appreciate the quick feedback.

What's the main difference between "hero" and "apprentice"?

AFAIK I can tell Apprentices can build lodges which generate domain and they are also used for some progression mechanics IE have two apprentices, etc.

You can get more apprentices (I think up to five?). Also Hero seem to all have a quest line of sorts and I think you can give them more items. Outside of that, I am not sure yet.

Why cannot we have more heroes like in age of wonders it was nice to have more heroes then one. Or are apprentices similar to heroes in power / stats?

Apprentices are your "heroes" while you can consider your hero as a legendary unit, they are far stronger overall but don't get a lodge and I don't know if they can come back from the dead. They also get their own quest to do, but I'm not sure what benefit this actually gives you in the long run. I finished my hero quest chains but I don't think it gave me any rewards outside of the hero being loyal to me. (at least in terms of story)

I know heroes start as a tier 5 unit and get really strong buffs every 5th level, mine has blinding radiance which applies blind to all enemies within 2 square radius and lasts for 3 turns which I don't think I've seen on anyone else so far.

They can. If they die you'll get a quest to revive them, following which you'll get a spell to bring them back in future.
They also get their own quest to do, but I'm not sure what benefit this actually gives you in the long run.
Depends on the hero. From the sound of it you have the ex-purity paladin; completing her quest unlocks her 'Aristocrat' skill (which IIRC, gives you 10 gold income every turn).

Heroes have unique skills and abilities, can't build lodges and have their own unique quest chain. Apprentices get skills and abilities according to their schools and can build lodges. You only get one hero, your apprentice slots are limited by tower level.

You are right, I actually had her and forgot she gets a skill at the end. +10 gold per day is nothing to scoff at for what is essentially just free quests and reputation gains in some cases.

apprentices are just generic champions with no story or anything.

Heros do have some, altrough one-dimensional, backstories.
