Maximum units in a battle?

What is the maximum number of units a player can command on a battle map?
What is the maximum number of units AI can command on a battle map?
Can multiple armies next to each other join the same battle?

Devs say player max stack can be 8-10 units.
Adjacent stacks don't participate, this is not AoW.

I am very early in the game, but I can only have four units in my stacks. How do you increase the amount of units you can put in a stack, please? If I try to move a fifth unit into the hex, they won't move in.

Keep doing the main quest and you will start to get leader units which are the 5th unit in a stack. There are also consumable items that an alchemist can make to temporarily summon new units in battle. There are probably other ways to get more units in a battle as well (maybe necromancy?)

Thank you! So five units is the general maximum unless you use special magic or something? How do we get big battles with lots of units on each side, then? A tiny five unit army isn't very fun after a while. I thought I some videos before the game released showing big battles with lots of units.

you have to grow your tower, every two stages you get another slot in your armies

You have to increase your mastery level. When your tower/mage level is raising you can sometimes unlock a higher stack size.

Go to the all-fire control at the top left where you can manually move the power distribution and move it to the lower left corner of the pyramid. Make sure you stay positive on Research and Mana so you don't get any negative effects.

I bought the game on GOG. :) It would be nice to know this in game. I thought when I was playing the tutorial it would tell me these things. I haven't gotten far in the tutorial yet so didn't think it was needed to know yet.

Am I wrong in thinking the tutorial will explain the mechanics and how to play the game more? If not I think it would be a good idea to improve the tutorial in a patch to explain the mechanics better on how play Eo.

Really liking the game so far. Be a shame to be frustrated to not know the mechanics of the game and give up on it.

Curious did I miss out on the manual? Maybe it explains the mechanics of the game like in the old days. :)

The tutorial actually does explain a lot and you can access and read it from the main menu screen

Build the rooms(multipel times) in your tower that expand the max stack amount.
