How to use the blacksmith
Hi everyone, I've just bought a dlc and found a blacksmith in town but I don't understand how to use it. He only seems to have recipes for items I already own. I tried unequipping my weapon, hoping he would upgrade for money, but no option to do so. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Blacksmiths can upgrade your items to their next rarity; they don't craft new items from scratch. For example, if you have a Common item, it can be upgraded to Uncommon, Uncommon to Rare, and Rare to Epic. The available recipes are for the items you can upgrade if you also have the rank to use them. You won't see recipes for items your character can't use.

For instance, to create the "Masterwork Ceremonial Hat (Uncommon)," I need a Common "Ceremonial Hat," 675 farthings, and rank 3 in Witchcraft. The common item is lost in the process, and any XP it has doesn't carry over to my new masterwork hat.

The item Masterwork Ceremonial Hat (Uncommon) requires Witchcraft 3 to use. Therefore, its recipe becomes available to my character in Blacksmiths only after my Witchcraft reaches level 3 or higher.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Still not sure I understand though, how do I know what is and isn't craftable? For example I have an infernal warhammer, can this be upgraded? Also, do weapon / armour schematics get used at all? Is there a way of knowing what items can be upgraded? Sorry for all the questions!

If an item can be upgraded, the blacksmith panel will display its recipe. New recipes unlock each time you increase in skill ranks. So one way is checking the blacksmith after gaining new skill ranks to see what's new there.

Additionally, rarities have prefixes such as Masterwork or Superior etc. An easy method outside the blacksmith is to consult the player's handbook. For example, if you search for 'Infernal Warhammer' and variations with these prefixes appear, then it can be upgraded.

Schematics are used in your headquarters' blacksmith as materials instead of farthings. The upgrade process remains the same. Alternatively, schematics can simply provide an item based on their level by using them as normal cards.

Sorry one last question! I have a pyromancer's amulet, I have upgraded my skill level to 5. I know it can be upgraded as I've seen an upgraded version, I've been to the blacksmith in the town but still no option to upgrade. What gives? I'm spending an inordinate amount of time back and fore to the blacksmith to try and get anything at all upgraded!

No problem. Indeed, it can be upgraded to Masterwork Pyromancer's Amulet. However, the upgraded item requires Pyromancy rank 6; that's when you will get the recipe, not at rank 5.

The recipes unlock when you meet the card requirements, as indicated in the top right corner of the card. Then, the recipe for Superior unlocks at rank 10, and the recipe for Exquisite unlocks at rank 14.

OMG sooo FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is this freaking Blackmith a, I have gone from town to town trying to find this dang Blacksmith option, just bought the DLC's and STILL no freaking Blacksmith option.

I am starting to believe that there is no freaking Blacksmith because NOWHERE is it explained and it just leads to freaking frustration. Needs to be explained and not freaking hid because THIS is not fun when you have no freaking clue where a option is.

Nevermind just stumbled on the elusive freaking "Blacksmith"

For those like me who played the Base game at first, you have to buy the 3rd Expansion to see the "Blacksmith" as a portrait you click on and it leads to other options.

THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED IN THE DANG RULE GUIDES!!!!!
