I already tried the haste potion but it didn´t work. I will it try it with the DEF+. Unfortunately i don´t have a assassin yet.
Another option is alert them right away then use either gate you chose to enter thru as a choke point should work really well with this method and no risk to any single unit.
Alternatively, I've heard good things about sending in a Dark Mage for Nightveil to stall the Southgate enemies from killing miners.
