Ending Question
I got the “blue” ending with Marchelle on normal manic difficulty. Gilbert lived, no one save for the two story deaths died/withdrew, and maxed out bond with many characters. I also did let the credits play and got all the epilogs.

That being said.

What the hell happened? Why was the ending bit not narrated? I assume we don’t go mad with power but why is the dragon flying over us? Is the voice at the end talking about our “hollow victory” the dragon? The fire eidolon?

I have so many questions as to the story like this whole game would have been prevented if Balastar did what any normal human would do and not believe, and let live, the head general of the enemy nation you HATE!

Or how, yes, it was stupid worthy of hanging for his uncle’s guards to leave him.

Or why Klara never did anything to help us and warrant her “fame.” I never used her, nothing she did aided us in actual game, it was all off-screen nonsense of being told how awesome she is.

Or why the story had us running the whole time and kept telling us just how powerful the other side was despite the fact a team of two sorcs, warlocks, healers, and archers wipe the floor with the entire game. Two Night veil with a 1X3 “kill zone” for them to funnel through. Night veil is OP as hell. Robin and Leon DIDN’T need to die.

They did not die heroes they died stupidly. Even in world they died stupidly. As did those miners. Look at you Klara.

The stuff above I can chalk up to the writers not understanding how to write a “rude bad ass” and fumbling it. As well as the devs not understanding how powerful crowd control is in a tactics game given this seems to be their first.

The ending though…none of that made sense. Why did he all the sudden turn “solemn and understanding” then go right into “chains and fire”.

Before writing a review I just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss something.

The "hollow victory" is probably laying the groundwork for a potential sequel, but yeah, the story is lacking, but is a lot more enjoyable/tolerable if you don't take it too seriously.

As for Klara, I'm wondering if she's a dev's Mary Sue self-insert because like you said, we constantly have to hear about how awesome she is and any time she does ♥♥♥♥ up, the story conveniently absolves her of responsibility, which comes at the cost of character development.

She also has Charlie's Angel (2019) power levels in that she's unrealistically competent at everything she does and outshines everyone else at the same time. You mean to tell me that Klara's suddenly a grand strategist capable of leading an outnumbered army of the best soldiers in the land (that she masterfully trained herself) to victory despite being caught in a pincer attack that only happened because she ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up her troop movement, even though her experiences only include leading a handful of mercs before going solo with Johanna, whose talent for strategy is why Klara kept her around?

Klara is truly the worst character in the whole game. (Followed by Johanna.) Oh how I wished I could've kicked her out of my army but she always returned, telling me how much I suck and how much better she is in everything I do. At least there were I think one or two moments where I could just tell her to stfu.
Who writes such characters, seriously.
