Getting Elemental magic on Eden to get overloard
I change him to commoner and gave him elemental book, cast a bunch of spells in a fight and he gained no improvement. They only way I see getting him to 3 in elemental magic for overlord is dueling?

Then you encountered a bug as using elemental spells in battle will increase the skill. It scales based on damages.
By the way, you would also need light 3 to unlock templar, Eden second affinity class.

Duelling is a good way to increase these skills yes. Also allows you to improve rapport with your opponent.

I will try again. When I equipped him with the book it was for an optional battle. I will try regular campaign battle.

doesnt matter what battle.. pretty sure you can even just target ground and farm xp if really want (seen many people say this).

So yaa bug I guess

That sounds like a bug, as it should increase simply by fighting outside of duels. Are all of his weapons messed up or just elemental? Because if it's messed up, I'd try unequipping the elemental grimoire doing an optional battle with different weapons and then requipping elemental ones.

also I assume by what you said you not making a brain fart mistake of like using Dark magic and thinking you are using elemental

Sorry to go off topic but shouldn't that be just a recommendation rather than a must do?
I understand that a Templar is the recommended class in his Affinity, but is it not compulsory to be one?

Unless I misunderstand the skill system (quite possible) can't Eden just be a Vanguard (so not needing Light Mastery at all) and then still progress into an Overlord?

Absolutely, no need to go through Vanguard even. You can do Knight -> Overlord.

Mastering Templar grants a special skill however since it is one of Eden's 2 affinities.

How can I unlock the spell class or noble class for Enden in order to able to learn magic?

So I was gaining some XP in the fights it was very small almost unnoticeable but after I hit 2nd level it seemed to speed up. I am now 3rd Elemental magic and switching to light to get that to 3.

You have to switch Eden back to the Commoner class. That is the only one where he can use grimoires and learn magic. Kind of a bummer, I know, but that's how they designed the game.

But to use that special skill (Blessing of Light) wouldn't that mean I would have to equip Eden with a Grimoire (seeing it's classed as a Light Spell), or is it a spell that he gets that doesn't require one?
If he needs to use a Grimoire at Templar class I believe that he would be a very weak magic user to have in a team, if your intended use for him is to finally become an Overlord.

I could well be wrong about everything of coarse.

I'm not sure if Blessing of Light is a skill or a spell, but as I understand it, any special spell obtained from a tier 3 spell casting class can be scribed into any type of spellbook regardless.
