pond smelt?

Been fishing for a few days and I can't catch one for the request box. Am I doing something wrong or just keep fishing?

The fishes available in town depend on the season.
Pond smelt are winter fishes, so if it's not winter currently you'll want to go to silver arch, left wing of the water ruins, floor 2 of maya road or sechs territory.
