so because i seem to be good at asking questions no one else has sufficiently answered how does one kill one of these things in a reasonable amount of time, i only seem to be doing single digit numbers and it's frustrating the heck out of me

If you're doing low damage, you need to make better equipment with better upgrades and potentially level up some more. Also look into food buffs, they can be quite powerful.

If you have trained your magic skills, it has a significantly lower MDef compared to def, so that can be a way to handle it a bit more easily.

Funny enough, the easiest way to get dangerous scissors is to tame the monster since it is its what it will produce in the barn, making it rather simple to get max level ones too.

But yes, if you just need to defeat them, stats and equipment are nearly always the answer.
It is a level 280 monster, with pretty decent physical stats (offense and defense), potentially made worse by the difficulty.
It also has no resistance or weakness.
