How to get out of town?

am on day 9 & i can't seem to get out of town to do the request to mine?

You can go out any time you want after introducing yourself to the villagers.
Just go down from the plaza in front of your home, you should then meet the knight for a small sequence (and get a free great sword if you answer that you don't have a weapon) and you are good to go.

Initially you only have access to a small area outside of town, which gets you to the first dungeon.

You open more areas by advancing the story, which requires you to defeat the dungeon's boss.

thanks i didn't see the exit below the map & thought the sky boat was the only exit from town

Do you not do any exploration at all? I mean, it's not that difficult to see the exit.
