Ending Decision Question

So after finally beating the game a second time, I decided to try out the other choice to see if there would be any noticeable difference, and besides the ending text and screen being different, everything seemed the same. So the question is, does the choice even matter? Do I even really get anything for fighting him? (Yes, I know you get the next difficulty)

Nnnnnope. But there IS a third option, which I'm sure you'll figure out on your next run :)

What new difficulties ALSO do is massively multiply your XP gain. So it IS quite a worthy reward where progression is concerned. Especially past level 20, you really want to ramp up the difficulty.
