My Garage
What Am I Doing Wrong (with Axle Stands)? [SOLVED]
Whenever I use axle stands to lift a car, after removing them, when the job is finished, the car sinks into the ground and cannot be driven.

First time this happened was with the heavy duty stands and a B200. I used 4 stands positioned where the white tick says they should be fitted. This job involved a front end removal and engine change. Lowering the vehicle all 4 wheels got stuck a couple of inches into the ground and the vehicle was unmovable - I had to sell it. :-(

Second time was a Wolf. Same process on placing the stands, the smaller variant, using the which tick marks. This job was a rear suspension, axle, diff change. Same thing when removing the stands. Had to sell the car to clear the area.

Third time was a Lad. Complete strip down and rebuild. Again the smaller axle stands was used. After removal only the rear wheel sunk in the ground but the outcome was the same - the vehicle could not be driven, but I could push it with lowest crouch and sprinting.

All 3 of these vehicles were worked on inside the garage space. Each stand was located using the white tick mark, always used 4 stands. I have used the stands, without this issue, outside of the garage space, but never for long projects.

I'm clearly doing something wrong and need some advice please?

Should I use a jack to lift the car first before placing the stands? This is what I would do in real life, of course. The jack doesn't have enough reach to lift above the height of the smallest stands, so even doing this when the 1st stand is placed the car is lifted off the jack.
I can't use the jack to lift the cat off the stands to remove them because it lacks the height reach.
Should I use the mechanical hoist to lift the car off the stands before removing them?
How do I remove the stands? I simply grab them and pull them out, right? Is there any special trick or function to remove the stands?

I have only 1 mod installed - wear condition (and ModUtils, of course). This problem happened before and after adding the mod. It also happened before and after the last update.

Please advise a new player on axle stands - or tell me to use the mechanical hoist, which always seems to work.

So while creating this video, i noticed, you cant over inflate the tires, it just stops inflating, so you might have some bug, but here is the video i was talking about, in it, i have a car that i deflated the tires on , then tryed to start the car then realized the engine on that car is bad and wouldnt start so i deflated tires on another car, then started it and tryed to move it, and as you can see it doesnt move, like yours, then i add air to the tires useing the airpump and then move the car and it works, so im guessing you have bad tires or something if they are not filling at all with air (you said they are still sunken into the ground) maybe the rims are bad?

I have a question since you didn't mention it, did you un-mount the tire from the rim at all? cuz the sinking into the ground and not being able to move / drive it sounds like the tires are flat (have no air in them)
The last car, the Lad, had all 4 tires unmounted and re-mounted with the tire mounter, with air pressure applied. The other 2 cars I couldn't tell you what I did with the tires, to be frank.

when you say "air pressure applied" im assuming you mean you used the air pump to re-fill the tires while they were on the car, you have to fill tires on the car, not off or else you wont know when to stop and will pop the tire and need to buy new ones, what i useually do is pump them up til they stop moving (you will see the car lift / tire come out of the ground) when it stops, i stop, then i know it has enough air
Fill the tires on the car??!? Nope, I did not do that. What a dodo.

Do you think that is my problem. I sure hope so.

Thanks so much.

Give it a try, its what i always do , also make sure the car is on the ground this way you can see the tire lift (get filled)
This is what i do all the time
Im at work now , but when i get home later if your still having issues, ill take a video of me doing this to show you (i get off in 3hrs)

I know this is a little cheaty, but there is a obd2 reader on the discord server , when you use that on the car it will tell you what is bad, and if you damaged your tires by over-inflating them and making them pop (im guessing here as i never did that / never pumped the tires off the car so i dont even know if they can pop, just a guess) they should show up as "ruined" in the diagnostic tab of the car info screen

If airing the tires up doesnt fix it, try using the tow to garage option since that drops the car from a small height when it spawns in.

I did tow the Lad to the service centre. Got a diagnostic report - 5 stars across the board :-), but the car was still sunk in the ground and un-drivable. Is the tow to garage different from the tow to service?
no, all the tows do the little drop, it has to be the tires or something Ive never seen

Thanks so much for the time and the effort in explaining the issue so clealry.

Problem is solved. I have replicated the issue myself and resolved it.

Awesome work - have some Steam points (if they are any use to you) :-)
Why not teleport the car then teleport it back ?
