KNOWN ISSUES
Hey all,

This message will be updated to list commonly known issues and progress on solutions going forward. We appreciate all the help this community has already provided to help us identify and track things down. We are staggering our patches to get proper testing, so if it isn’t in the next patch it should be in the one shortly after.

  • We’ve tried to provide sufficient resources for all required combat scenarios, but if you find yourself blocked or stuck due to lack of resources, please try the “restart from checkpoint” option from the player menu. We will continue to resource balance to reduce this. - Case by Case Tuning
  • Abrupt transition occurs to credits from the Mind Body Spirit endings instead of a smooth transition. – Patch in Testing
  • Multi-colored corrupt looking textures -- this is a driver bug Epic/Unreal are sorting out with Nvidia. - Will update when we receive more info/it's fixed.
  • Keyboard and mouse customization doesn’t work yet. - Patch in Testing
  • Background menu video doesn’t work with some Linux setups, causing the screen to be white. – Investigating/Info appreciated
  • Stuttering/Hitching due to shader compiles on certain hardware configurations. Pre-compiled shader cache being added - Patch Live - please provide feedback
  • Progression - Chapter 2 End - There is very edge case blocker making player unable to interact with a mirror. Temporary solution: Restart from checkpoint - Fix in Progress

I am currently updating the build notes from the latest patch. A key addition is the pre-compiled shader cache. Please let me know if this improves hitching/stuttering. Thanks!

    [PS5 Version]

I think I'm glitched on the Chapter 5 boss battle. Every time I try to push the reflector I bounce straight back off it and can't push it. I've looked up guides and YouTube videos to see if I need to get the timing right and have copied the videos and I still bounce off. Any ideas?

EDIT - I reset my PS5 and reloaded the game, it seems to be working now.

Right click on The Chant in Steam -> Properties -> Controller -> Override for The Chant -> Disable Steam Input. I don't have an xbox 360 controller right now, but I will try it out tomorrow in the office. Please let us know if this works out for you.

    Thanks

I have the same issue. In addition, the A and B buttons act as if I'm pressing them both at the same time whenever I hit one of them (each input attempts to confirm and cancel at the same time, it seems).

I followed the suggestions and disabled the Steam Input, but there was no change. Funny enough, I found that if I unplug the controller, then launch the game and plug it back in after the game has started up, the issues go away. It's a very awkward fix, and I've never seen this issue before.

I'm using a Logitech F310 controller, which runs like an XBox controller with internal emulation. I don't have issues with other games. Hope this helps...

In case anyone is wondering, I found a fix through another recent game's discussion area where I encountered issues again. I had to go into "Steam" -> "Controller" -> "General Controller Settings". I ensured that only the "Xbox Configuration Support" and the "Xbox Extended Feature Support" options were checked (which I turned off a long time ago due to past issues). It force a restart of my PC, but when it came back, I went into the The Chant's properties and set the controller settings to use the default settings. I started up the game and it fixed the issue. Again, this was specifically for the Logitech f310 controller.

Hello, is the Stuttering/Hitching is fixed already?

Hello, been trying to play the game but most of the time when a cut scene or loading screen happens the game's audio stutters and sometimes a moment later the game crashes. I've tried to fix it by messing with the graphics settings but it doesn't seem to help. Currently, I'm at the beginning of the game where you talk to Kim after meeting everyone. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

My processor is an Intel core i5 and my graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 Ti. I'm up to date on my software as far as I know.

We added the PSO/pre-loaded cache in a previous patch, which seems to have fixed the stuttering hitching issue for most players.

Sorry this is happening and thank you for providing the info. I will ask our tech director to look into the issue. Can you tell me where exactly the game is crashing? Also, are you running on an SSD hard drive or HDD platter drive?

    Thanks

I appreciate you getting back with me and you're welcome! Despite the issues, I love the premise to the game.

So far, the game crashes at the beginning of the cut scenes. It'll start to stutter with the audio when it's trying to transition to the cut scene and then it shows the cut scene for a split second and crash. Sometimes when coming from a loading screen into a cut scene it will do the same thing. The hard drive for my laptop is an SSD and if it helps it's an Acer Nitro 5 laptop.

They could already send a promotion of about 25%, it would make me buy the game. :)

WTF, why are you having enemies spawn behind while exploring. And having Angie appear while fighting two enemies at the same time. Come on, this is close to an amazing game, but you guys activity put the worst part of horror games into your game.

We have a patch in testing that has a variety of gameplay and feedback improvements for Angie. Hopefully this will resolve your frustrations. Our goal is to make her a threat, but not at the expense of hurting exploration or key encounters.

Thanks so much for the information.. Our tech director will be looking into this and hopefully we can get a fix in soon. If you don’t mind we may have some further questions to help narrow it down.

You're welcome and sounds good. Also, I played it for a few mins just now and so far haven't had any crashes but it stutters a little bit here and there -- not as much though and it's pretty smooth. I do know my graphics card did update twice in the past couple weeks,

I tested this on the steam deck, my laptop and desktop. The same issue is affecting all of them with Proton 7, experimental and every version of Proton GE 7 that I had installed. The same issue is also visible for this person: https://youtu.be/mFZ-J3f8QhY?t=1506
It seems it's affecting all Linux setups.

I also opened an issue tracker with proton: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6291
The proton log is available there as well along with my specs for the laptop. The desktop is not really a gaming machine so not really that important.

It also affects the projector videos. There's sound but no video

The background is black now after the latest patch (Proton Experimental), so the menu works now on the Steam Deck. The in game videos of the projector still don't work properly but I'd call it a minor inconvenience (I hope those are only collectibles).
