I'm a little confused... maybe I'm misremembering (it's been a very long time since I last played Sins1) but didn't the first game play out across a galactic map consisting of multiple star systems? Does the orbital movement mechanic of Sins2 mean that we're playing in smaller star system maps, or are there still multiple systems? And if the latter, does that mean that the star systems are smashed together very closely together?

Or, if there's a further "zoomed out" layer to the map, will the orbital movements affect the transit lanes between star systems, even though the stars' relative positions are static? Or will the game play out over such huge spans of time that the stars' positions change, too?

1. You will have the option of playing maps around 1 star or multiple stars. We haven't released any multi-star maps yet.

2. No, the star systems are not smaller.

3. Yes there will be multiple star systems. The distance will vary by map.

4. Yes, the phase lanes between star systems will change based on orbits.

5. Star positions will likely not change for the Steam launch but we haven't ruled it out for the future.

God, I've been playing the first game on and off since nearly release and to finally have the sequel nearly here is just a dream come true, especially when it looks so crisp and clean and well there's so much potential for it to grow even more in the future. I just hope we finally get a glimpse of just what the Vasari are running from because well, it's gotta be close to the fringes now

Honestly I have to say I'm feeling pretty lukewarm after reading and seeing all of this. I absolutely loved the first Sins, but this all seems rather samey? Especially disappointed about the seemingly very lackluster visual update.

My first impression is that this seems more like a Sins 1.5 instead of 2. Or just a nice mod?

I hope I'm proven wrong as more news is released about the game.

Hi Cryane, which of the key differences in the blog above do you feel are not different enough from Rebellion? (besides your comment on the visuals). Feedback would be great so in the next blog we can clarify our descriptions, focus on something different, or perhaps even improve the game itself.

I’m concerned how the ships and structures look. They look more toy like now and not like large or huge vessels or structures seen from a distance but small space ship toys seen up close. This is because there is less greebling. We don't see as much in the way of trenches, panels, antenna, windows and just in general small details. With the improved engine and graphics you want all the things that make them look real big and not kids Lego toys. Lots of antennas, little details and lots more windows. Windows are critical to give scale to an object. The mind has to make a perceptual decision whether it’s a large object seen far away or a tiny object seen up close. Similar to the so called diorama effect in 3D movies. In this case windows create the illusion of real size. So could that be fixed with the ships and structures? Otherwise players sadly may feel like they are playing with toy ships not massive ones with many lives at stake :)

Cannot wait! Day 1 purchase from an old Sins fan (unfortunate Epic was chosen for initial release) Just the promise of 64 bit engine utilisation is enough.

I actually wanted to jump up and down in my seat watching the trailer and reading the breakdown of it. And that's just this one video.

I wish I knew what my actual time played was for Sins 1, but all my time played data disappeared around 10 years ago. I know I had over 3k hours in Dawn of Discovery: Venice before that happened, and I know I had over 800 hours in Sins 1 at the time. I know I put at least a few hundred more hours into Sins 1 after that.

Looking forward to putting a few thousand hours into Sins 2!!!
